Undergraduate students at our university are required to complete a total of 32 credits in General Education, including 14 credits of Basic Competency Courses (4 credits in Chinese, 6 credits in English, and 4 credits in Physical Education) and 18 credits in General Education courses. Is there a maximum number of General Education (GE) credits that can be taken each semester?
Currently, there is no set limit on the number of GE credits per semester. However, to maintain a balance between major and GE courses and to ensure learning quality, it is recommended that students take no more than three GE courses in a single semester.

Are there any departmental restrictions on taking General Education (GE) courses?
In principle, there are no such restrictions. However, for some GE courses, instructors may restrict enrollment for certain departments to prevent students from taking courses that are too similar to those already offered in their major.

Does NTNU offer intercollegiate course selection for general education courses?
Currently, the university has certain general education courses open for intercollegiate selection and credit transfer with National Taiwan University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and Taipei Medical University. Undergraduate students are exempt from credit fees.

Chinese Writing and Expression: Self-Directed Learning
- Students form groups of 3–6 and design their own study plan.
- The plan must include three types of writing: applied, critical, and creative writing.

What is the difference between the two courses, “Self-Directed Learning: Guided Study” and “Self-Directed Learning: Inquiry Study” ?
- Self-Directed Learning: Guided Study : This course is collaboratively designed by both teachers and students. Students are required to submit a proposal before the semester begins, which will be reviewed by the instructor, who will then guide them in carrying out their self-directed learning projects. The course takes general education and liberal studies as its foundation, encouraging students to develop learning themes that integrate cross-disciplinary perspectives, issue-oriented inquiry, social engagement, student-initiated projects, and topics aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Self-Directed Learning: Inquiry Study: A team of at least two students is required to independently design a self-directed learning project of no fewer than 32 hours. The theme should focus on “cross-disciplinary integration” and “issue-oriented inquiry”, or incorporate topics related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), social engagement, or student-led initiatives. The team must find a suitable faculty advisor and submit an application in the preceding semester. The proposal will be reviewed by the General Education Curriculum Committee, and the project can only proceed once it has been approved and revised in accordance with the reviewers’ feedback.
