115-1 Semester English Dubbing Contest Highlights Short Film

What is English Dubbing Contest？
The team must select a 3-4 minute clip from an English movie or TV series and perform live dubbing without playing the original audio. This tests their fluency in English speaking, accuracy, and teamwork.
Who can participate?
✧NTNU undergraduate students
✧Non-native English speakers
✧Non-English majors
✧Only group registrations are allowed, with 2-3 members per group
✧Each person can only participate in one group
Rules
1. Video and Dubbing Guidelines:
✧The video must be from an English-language TV series or film.
✧The video must be between 3 and 4 minutes long.
✧Every participant must take part in dubbing and be responsible for at least 40 seconds of dialogue.
✧One participant may voice multiple roles.
✧The dubbing script must match the original dialogue exactly.
2. File Submission Format Instructions
✧Please go to the NTNU Foreign Language Education Division website and access the “Dubbing Contest” registration page. Fill out the registration form and upload a front-side image of your student ID card.
Please create a PDF file and send it to the General Education Foreign Languages Section email at engpu.ntnu@gmail.com, or directly upload a shared cloud link via the registration form.

a. Font:
English: 12-point Times New Roman
Chinese: 12-point Microsoft JhengHei (微軟正黑體)
b. Line Spacing: 1.0
c. Headings:
✧Level 1: centered, bold
✧Level 2: flush left, bold
✧Level 3: flush left, bold italic
(2) The PDF must include the following:
a. Character assignment table
b. English verbatim script
c. Link to the original video clip (within 4 minutes, without subtitles and with original audio). Do not submit a full episode or film.)
d. Episode information (if applicable) and clip timestamp (minutes: seconds to minutes: seconds)
e. Preliminary Round Voice Acting Video Link (Within 4 minutes):
f. The video must be a single continuous take with no editing or subtitles. All participants must appear on camera. Sound effects must be created live by participants. The original video's audio/sound effects are strictly prohibited.
g. The PDF file and email subject must be named:“English Dubbing Contest_Video Title_Group Members’ Names.” (Example: “ English Dubbing Contest_Zootopia_ 李O心”)
h. Please ensure that link access permissions are properly enabled so that FLED can download and review your materials.
✧All registration and submission must be completed by 12:00 noon on Friday, October 30th, 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted.
3. Selection Process
Up to 15 groups will be selected from the applicant pool to advance to the final round. If more than 15 groups apply, selection will be based on the completeness of the application materials and the difficulty of the dubbing performance.
Contest day
✧Only the video image will be projected; all audio must be turned off.
✧Participants may bring props to create sound effects on-site.
✧Participants may use mobile devices to play background music but cannot use the original video's sound.
✧The performance must not include inappropriate actions, words, or sound effects.
✧Performance time must be between 3 to 4 minutes. Points will be deducted for every 30 seconds under or over the time limit.
✧There will be no rehearsal time on the contest day, so practice thoroughly beforehand.
Judging Criteria
✧Fluency and teamwork: 40%
✧English pronunciation: 40%
✧Voice performance: 20%
Incentive Scheme
✧First Prize: NT$15,000 and certificate
✧Second Prize: NT$9,000 and certificate
✧Third Prize: NT$6,000 and certificate
✧Honorable Mention: two groups of awardees, NT$3,000 and certificate
*The judges reserve the right to leave any prize vacant if no entry meets the required standards.
